Becoming a leader on site

Reason for Joining the Company

Driven by a Desire to Work Overseas

I am originally from Okayama Prefecture and majored in economics at university. After graduation, I joined an outdoor-related company and worked in locations such as Kyoto, Kochi, and Gifu—areas rich in nature and frequently visited by customers from overseas. Through daily interactions with international guests, I gradually developed a strong desire to "improve my English skills" and "work in a broader global environment."

What truly pushed me forward was a language study program in Cebu. Spending several months immersed in English transformed my aspiration to work abroad from a distant dream into a tangible goal. After returning to Japan and beginning my job search, I came across TAC. The job description stated that the position would "eventually involve working in Singapore," and I instantly thought, "This is it."
Another decisive factor was that TAC has a base in my hometown of Okayama, giving me confidence that I could begin my new career in a familiar and supportive environment.

Current Responsibilities and Motivation

Expanding My Challenges in Singapore

After gaining experience in Japan, I have been working in Singapore since 2019, where I am the only Japanese staff member on site. My responsibilities span a wide range of areas—from sales and material testing to on-site supervision, troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, and even drawing and program adjustments. When I first joined the company, I had no technical background. For that reason, I established my own rule: "Think and try on my own first, then form a hypothesis before asking others." This approach allowed me not just to receive answers, but to truly internalize the knowledge.

One of the most memorable experiences was a major issue that occurred at the first site I handled in Singapore. Taking the lead while working closely with our headquarters and equipment manufacturers, I identified the root cause and implemented corrective measures. When the site resumed operations, I felt an enormous sense of accomplishment.

Team and Workplace Atmosphere

A Friendly and Open Work Environment

Our Singapore office consists of three local staff members, and as the only Japanese employee, I communicate primarily in English. People in Singapore tend to draw a clear line between work and personal time, and many leave promptly at the 5:30 p.m. closing time. At first, this surprised me, but I have come to appreciate it as an efficient and healthy working style.

The workplace has a warm and friendly atmosphere, where we often talk about family or weekend plans while working. There is a culture of openly asking questions whenever something is unclear, which helps maintain smooth communication. Interaction with the headquarters in Japan is mainly through LINE, email, and Zoom. Whether sharing photos from a site for advice or asking for program checks, it is reassuring to know that support is just a message away, regardless of the distance.
Because the team is small, each member carries a significant level of responsibility. At the same time, this provides greater autonomy and contributes to a strong sense of fulfillment in my work.

MY FUTURE
VISION

Having worked in Singapore for over five years, I have recently felt a growing desire to expand my field of activity even further. I am particularly interested in regions such as Taiwan, Thailand, India, and the Philippines, where I previously studied. Each country has its own construction rules and material standards, and I hope to broaden my capabilities by overcoming these differences—along with cultural and language barriers—one by one.

I also aim to deepen my technical expertise. Many professionals who succeed overseas possess not only strong English skills but also advanced technical knowledge. By accumulating experience through my daily work and projects across Asia, I aspire to become someone who can lead international project sites with confidence.
