Our company was established in 1932 as a sales business for mined ceramics and refractory raw materials. Our Shield TBM engineering related business started in 1976.

From its origins in the UK in the 1800’s, the development of Shield tunneling research has been most prevalent in Japan, with breakthroughs in Slurry Shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) in 1967 and EPB (Earth Pressure Balance) Shield TBM in 1974. Around the same time, TAC Corporation developed and realized two-liquid type backfill grouting method for the first time in Japan. This method dramatically advanced conventional shield construction. TAC has successfully applied this technique to more than 1,900 tunneling sites worldwide and will continue to apply it to more sites.

Our corporate name was changed to the current “TAC” in 1992, commemorating our 60th anniversary. The company logo features a circle and a crescent moon—symbolizing the shield and the backfill respectively. The circle represents the shield, while the crescent moon represents the backfill, and together they also evoke the imagery of “shield = sun” and “backfill = moon,” expressing our strong message: “Always supporting the jobsite.”
