Reason for Joining the Company
Although I majored in the humanities at university, growing up in a family that runs a construction business strongly influenced my career aspirations. When I began my job search, I felt a strong desire to work in the construction industry. While gathering information through job-search websites, I came across TAC and learned about its shield tunneling operations. This resonated with my aspiration to be involved in large-scale projects, and my interest grew.
At the time, I had also received an offer for a sales position at another construction company. However, my desire to work directly on-site and be involved in the construction process itself was stronger, which led me to pursue a position at TAC. Standing on-site now, I can clearly see how the facilities I help build contribute to society. Hearing feedback directly from the field gives me a profound sense of accomplishment and fulfillment—an experience that is difficult to find elsewhere.
Current Responsibilities and Motivation
In the Construction Department, we perform test runs by connecting electrical cables and other components to the equipment maintained by the Equipment Department. Once the equipment passes inspection, it is shipped to the site, where we carry out final adjustments or modifications according to customer requirements. We also respond to service calls when issues arise after operation. Resolving problems and receiving words of appreciation directly from customers is incredibly rewarding.
Typically, we spend two to three days at a site, including equipment delivery, assembly, and test operations. After that, we visit the site as needed during operation or when trouble occurs. Since we handle multiple sites and also support other ongoing projects, there are months when business trips total up to about 15 days. Although the travel can be demanding, working in a new environment each time keeps the job engaging and fulfilling. Plus, enjoying local cuisine after work makes my time off both enjoyable and enriching.
Team and Workplace Atmosphere
In the Construction Department, each project site is assigned one primary engineer, who works in a pair with a supporting member. When heading to a site, we often coordinate schedules and ask other team members for support, and everyone is always willing to help. Our team is full of kind and personable colleagues, so communication has never been an issue.
When equipment troubles occur, it is not only those of us who go out to the site who take ownership. Members from other departments—such as the Equipment Department and the Design Department—also offer thoughtful support as if the issue were their own. With this naturally strong backup system and a culture that encourages collaborative problem-solving, I always feel reassured and supported.
At the end of last year, I was assigned my first project as a primary engineer, and I am currently responsible for four sites in total, including Fukuoka, Osaka, and Nagoya. On my first assignment, I worked together with a junior colleague, taking the lead in explaining schedules and equipment operations—an experience that made me quite nervous. Until then, I had relied heavily on senior staff, but going forward, I aim to deepen my understanding of machinery and electrical systems so that I can confidently guide junior members as well.
This year, I also had the opportunity to visit a project site in the Philippines. In the future, I hope to become an engineer capable of managing overseas projects. To achieve this, I intend to further develop not only my technical knowledge but also my language skills and ability to build strong relationships with clients.
