Reason for Joining the Company

Drawn to a Field Precisely Because It Was Unknown to Me

I majored in the humanities at university and initially focused on sales positions during my job search. While exploring opportunities mainly in the manufacturing industry—where many positions were available—I discovered the company and was intrigued by its operations both in Japan and overseas, including its office in Singapore. Having studied abroad during university, I hoped to use English in my future career, and this opportunity strongly appealed to me.

At the time, I had no knowledge of shield tunneling or Backfill Grout Injection, but because the field was so niche and unfamiliar, it sparked my curiosity even more.
My first visit to the company was for an interview at the headquarters, where I had the chance to speak with the president and tour the factory. I clearly remember how friendly, cheerful, and approachable everyone was. After joining the company, I found that the workplace atmosphere truly matched the impression I had during that visit.

Current Responsibilities and Motivation

A Role That Enables Collaboration Across Cultures

In the Design Department, we create design drawings that reflect the specific combination of machinery required for each project, along with customer requirements. We then program and adjust the equipment to ensure it operates according to plan. My primary responsibilities include preparing these programs and conducting test runs at the factory and on-site. Contributing to project progress and meeting our customers' expectations gives me a strong sense of fulfillment.

I also have many opportunities to visit overseas project sites, including those in Singapore and Canada. One of the most memorable projects took place in India, where there were no Japanese supervisors on-site. Communication challenges and cultural differences made the work difficult, but I learned that the commitment to achieving a shared goal is universal. When sincerity and mutual effort are present, trust can be built across any cultural boundary—an invaluable lesson from that experience.

Team and Workplace Atmosphere

Learning Every Day from Experienced Colleagues

Everyone in the Design Department is older than I am, with even the closest in age being about ten years my senior. This creates a very enriching environment where I can learn from highly knowledgeable colleagues. During my first six months, I rotated through several departments for training, and the one I most wanted to join was the Design Department. Because of the nature of the work, it is essential to understand the reasoning behind decisions—such as why machines are arranged in a certain way or why they operate in a particular sequence. I was deeply impressed that when I asked questions, the senior members explained not only the conclusions but also the thought process behind them. This strengthened my desire to work in this team.

Another appealing aspect is the openness that allows us to express what we want to try. The programming tasks I currently handle began simply because I expressed interest. A senior colleague encouraged me, saying, "Would you like to give it a try?" and gradually entrusted me with more responsibility as I learned.

MY FUTURE
VISION

Looking ahead, I hope to deepen my expertise beyond the programming work I currently handle. I want to gain broader technical knowledge—including construction methods, equipment operation, and conditioning materials—so that I can become more actively involved on-site.

Backfill Grout Injection is something we never encounter in our daily lives, and I myself knew nothing about it until I began my job search. Yet it is an essential technology that supports underground infrastructure. This work offers the rewarding experience of collaborating with many people to complete a single project, while also contributing to society in a meaningful way. I hope new team members will join us and discover the appeal of this field as well.
