Types and Characteristics of Slurry Material

Types and characteristics of Slurry Material

①Bentonite and Clay
Bentonite and Clay Bentonite are naturally occurring crushed minerals, which when added to water have the property of swelling by 2-6 times their normal size, and thus increasing the viscosity of the solution they are added to. Bentonite is used as an additive at the cutting face to help sandy soil to clump and be removed effectively, it also helps to prevent the collapse of the cutting face due to the mud film it has the ability to create. Clay Bentonite is also a naturally occurring raw material, but because of its inability to swell it is mainly used as a filling material for gravelly or coarse sandy ground adding extra weight, and smaller particulate size to the overall excavated slurry mix. TAC’s Clay Sand duplicates the role of clay Bentonite as a Slurry Material. It has a uniform distribution of particle size, which makes it an excellent candidate for controlled filling of slurry material. It has many varying uses depending on the target ground being mined.
②Thickener
At the cutting face the reuse of muddy water is common, however problems of silt separation can easily occur. By adding a thickening material to muddy water which is exhibiting sedimentation the clay bentonite has the effect of inhibiting contact with cations (Ca2+ Mg2+, etc) which agglomerate bentonite. TAC Thickener is made to be stronger and much more soluble than conventional CMC, which in turn makes the management of this muddy water easier to cope with.
③Dispersant
Dispersing agent chemically disperse and prevent the agglomeration of clay particles by incorporation cations. When excavating cement-based or thick clay based ground, TAC Dispersants can be used to reduce viscosity and make slurry thinner. TAC Dispersal materials have also been used as additives for viscous land plates in mud pressure shields.
④Filling Material
Filling material enables coarse particulates to be gathered and held together by using an attractive effect. This is a supplementary material that can help reduce or remove loss circulation materials, and can reliably perform as a core blocking function within the mud bed material.
